The ELMS Coalition was formed in March 2005 and now actively and effectively engages the US space life sciences community and civic-minded supporters, in order to retain our national space biology capability.
We are committed to space exploration and also to the retention of space life science and technology capabilities that America has and must continue to lead in the 21st century.
Our founding organizations are composed of life sciences organizations representing scientists from the US space entrepreneurs and other supporters. The combined grassroots membership of the coalition numbers over 10,000 and is growing steadily.
The ELMS Mission for FY 2006 and beyond:
- To assure the realization of the national vision to complete and utilize the International Space Station (ISS) for space biology research
- To urge NASA to fulfill its 30-year promise to deliver science and public benefits return on the $60B taxpayer investment in ISS
- To recognize the importance of creative entrepreneurship, which helps drive mission-enabling research and technology
- To commit to the retention of current space biologists and the training of the next generation
- To keep US international space partnerships in place.
